CategoriesNZ TESOL ACADEMY
The Trinity Certificate in TESOL from EDENZ Colleges is an initial teaching qualification for English speakers (Native or Non-Native) who wish to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Training delivery will predominantly be Face-to-Face. Students receive a combination of theory, practice, and observation. Delivery methods may include classroom discussion, seminars, role-plays and one-on-one guidance.
OVERVIEW OF COURSE
6 core assessments make up the Trinity Certificate In TESOL, and are offered over 10 to 15 weeks depending on chosen course intensity.
TEACHING PRACTICE (40%) & TEACHING EXPERIENCE LOG (10%)
The most important feature of the course is the emphasis on the development of specialist teaching skills through practice with classes of multi-lingual students. This will be as varied as possible so that on leaving the course you will be able to inform employers that you have taught adults at different levels, both with full classes and with one-to-one remedial teaching.
UNKNOWN LANGUAGE JOURNAL 10%
At some point during the course, you will have a short course in learning an unknown language. Your language tutor will use the methodology that you will be expected to use in your English classes. You will record your reactions to the teaching and learning on a daily basis and then consider the implications derived from your learning for teaching complete beginners. The purpose of this is also to put you in the position of a beginner in a new language and make you more aware of the challenges they face.
LEARNING PROFILE 15%
This is an assignment based on one-to-one meetings with a student. It will consist of a biographical sketch of your assigned student with a description of his/her problems in the spoken and written language and information about follow-up lessons in which you try to help your student overcome selected problems.
TEACHING MATERIALS ASSIGNMENT 10%
You will be required to evaluate one set of materials you have created for your lessons . (Moderator assessed).
LANGUAGE AWARENESS TEST 15%
You will be tested on the grammar, lexis and pronunciation that is taught on the course. These are open-book tests. The knowledge you will need is based on your ability to analyse the English you already use in everyday communication.
